Out on DVD!
Interesting to see Sam Neil & Mel Gibson in the early stages of their careers & a few decent battle scenes although it`s really nothing special.I remember seeing an Aussie mini-series about the WW2 Z raids years ago which eclipsed this;also mentioned in the 30min featurette on the DVD but annoyingly they omit the title of it.
Has a few hard-edged moments particularly when a wounded comrade gets put out of his misery at the start of the mission but it really is mediocre until the run-in.Squad get ambushed, shoot some Japs, shoot some more Japs although the machine guns are nifty;maybe I`m wrong but it looks like the U.S. "Grease Gun" with the biggest silencer you`ll ever see.
DVD has aforementioned featurette with a few cast interviews(no Gibson,Neil-You`re not surprised)-anamorphic widescreen approx 1.85:1(good pic overall apart from grainy opening shot with sub),stereo-Australian 2004 release although region 0.
