'AMITYVILLE II: THE PATHETIC!!!'

I loved the original "Amityville Horror" (and its 2005 remake), but this 2nd movie (which is actually supposed to be a prequel not a sequel) is absolute garbage!!

"The Amityville Horror" was scary and superbly done...but "Amityville II: The Possession" is just stupid and NOT scary at all! Both movies are based on supposed true stories...the first of George and Kathy Lutz and their family's experiences in the house, and this one very loosely based on the DeFeo family (the family name changed to Montelli for the movie) and subsequent murders (before the Lutz family moved in).

But, this movie has unbelievably terrible acting, the scares fail miserably, the blood and sets seem "faky", the incest is a bizarre and sick twist that was probably unnecessary, and the movie is just crap compared to the first/original! I was gravely disappointed!! Some of the later sequels are more scary and better than this one!

Do you like the Amityville story? Stick with the original 1979 "Amityville Horror" and/or the 2005 remake. Kudos and appreciation to James Brolin and Margot Kidder (1979) and Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George (2005)! As for this movie...they should change the title of this movie to "Amityville II: The Pathetic"! ;-)

This is the only film in the Amityville franchise that I really truly love. The original has its moments but is overall incredibly weak, imo. The remake is intense but too glossy and loud. The other sequels are decent in spots but nothing great.

The Possession is the only one that genuinely unsettles me. I still remember how freaked out I was after the first time I saw it. Late at night with a pair of headphones on! It made all of the headphones scenes in the film even more disturbing lol. I find the acting to be decent from most of the players. The look of the possessed lead character is also very startling. The bloodbath at the middle of the film is one of the most chilling sequences in horror history, imo.

I agree.

Bruce Lee was real. Batman was never real.

You loved the crap the remake is and HATED this one? Really? Ok.

Exactly. The OP lost all credibility right there.

Yup. Give me Amityville II: The Possession over the trudging original and the dreadful 2005 remake any day.

linda_lee110282, yeah that part really got me SMH. The remake was truly awful.

The 2nd film is the only one that scared me! It is filled with a sense of dread and impending atmosphere that none of the other films have. i don't know how you think the acting in this film is worse than the original film? James Brolin did one of the worst over-acting jobs ever in that film!

Meat's meat, and man's gotta eat!!

Rod Steiger was atrocious, too.

Exactly! Did this guy even see the original? The acting in that one is way worse than the acting in this one.
Like you said, James Brolin was awful.

I don't agree at all that this movie was garbage (or pathetic) but to each his or her own. I saw it when it first came out and then again just this week and it really creeped me out...even more than it did the first time. From the incest theme to the possessed Sonny make-up and acting, I thought it was very effective. The only aspect of the film that was a dud for me was Rutanya Alda's performance. And if you're reading this Rutanya, I mean no offense, for me it just felt like you were miscast. Burt Young was perfect as the bastard for a father (I grew up with a dad not too dissimilar), and the atmosphere of the house was very spooky. James Olson came across as a genuinely concerned priest, caught between right and wrong, reality and church dogma. The only problem I had with the film (other than Ms. Alda's performance) was stealing the part of the plot directly from 'The Exorcist', with the priest begging the demon to leave Sonny and take him instead. Other than that, good flick. /.02

Btw, I didn't care for the original Amityville Horror or the remake. Except for Margot Kidder, of course. hubba hubba hubba

You're right, no human being would stack books like this.

I only like the first three. That's it. The weird thing is about part 2 is that it never shows you the famous side of the house with the sun porch. Only the other side. Of course you see glimpses of the sun porche's banister looking down from those windows and a small scene with a close up at the windows...but never a full shot. In part 3 the other side that you see all the time in part 2, the pie windows are gone and there is one window there at where the windows would have been and this one window is centered in the middle and there is no chimney. Crazy!

Amityville Horror 2005 sucked balls. I wanted to punch Ryan Reynolds in the face for his appalling acting.

Agreed, very spooky scene.  I LOVED this film, the original and the remake, the third one was okay but it had some corny moments.

You are not a true horror fan to get upset over the incest scene. It's real horror and apparently it did freak you out.
This movie separates posers from legitimate fans of the genre.
The OP is just crap, not this excellent sequel.
