Question about 'The Love Boat' Gag

What is the significance of Ted climbing the wall and running into the guy singing 'The Love Boat'??

Are we to think that he is overboard or he has jumped ship?? Or is there another gag that I'm missing?

It's probably just Ken Finkleman being random. There is a small connection, however, since Chad Everett (Simon) appeared in a few episodes.

He is climbing the wall because he has escaped the hospital he is in. The spotlight that is catching him is the old prison gag where a prisoner tries to avoid that light. The guy Ted runs into is lounge singer Jack Jones, who sang the theme.

Yeah it's just a mix of random and the fact that there is a spotlight, and an insane asylum. Makes "sense" that there would be a guy imitating a lounge singer under a spotlight. The love boat part is irrelevant and random.... And totally funny!

Although that does seem make more " comedic sense " here vicferrarri - I agree    .

I thought it might had been a parallel with the first Airplane movie - actress
Jill Whelan who played Vicki Stubing on The Love Boat was in the first film .  
