Would #MeToo be all over 48 Hrs. if it came it today?

What I mean is that, we see Reggie meet this girl at a club, Candy (played by a pre-Miami Vice Olivia Brown), and immediately demands that they have sex. I mean it isn't like the woman is a hooker or that Reggie has any money despite "dressing nicely".

Watching this movie again recently, I forget how much of sleaze and scumbag Reggie is regarding women even without the criminal record. He constantly objectifies and shamelessly hits on women, and makes lewd comments. Yet, he hides behind the excuse of him, not being able to see women due to his incarnation.

The Me Too movement is actively looking for things to complain about so my assumption is yes

It caused a lot of "amazed" yelling and a lot of laughter in the movie theater that year of release. But that was then, this is now.

There's a plot reason: this guy has been in prison for a long time, and has to go back for a year. He has not been with a woman in years, he will not BE with a woman for another year. He's only got 48 hours. He has no time for courtship or a date. AND he has confidence in his looks, his body, his manner. He was probably somewhat of a pickup artist, anyway, and when he adds in the honesty -- "look, I've only got 48 hours" -- well, eventually it WORKS.

Women have been giving men "a sexual break" since time immemorial. Often with soldiers going off to war.

Anyway, this was wild stuff even back in 1982 but no...they won't be making movies like this anymore. Its over.

Well, the incarceration is a BIG reason(see above) but c'mon, its Eddie Murphy playing a real PLAYER...figure he got LOTS of women before he went in. And since he has "sex on the mind" while he's out for 48 hours, he even keeps peppering Nolte with questions about HIS sex life(with a hot chick, yes?) just to keep his mind on the topic. That was funny stuff back then -- it loosened Nolte's character up.

Murphy isn't playing a choirboy in this movie.

#MeToo is about actual harrassment and abuse that takes place in real life, and in the entertainment industry.

It's not about what criminal characters in movies do.

they don't care, man

so you're suggesting that no normal person would complain about how women are written in this movie?

In 1982 the world was much more honest about the fact that males are essentially genetically programmed by evolution to feel like they literally need sex constantly, far more so than women. In more recent years "intersectional" (wink-wink) college professors have made headway gaslighting millennials and zoomers and convincing them that it's all social constructs, women want sex just as much as men if not more, blah blah blah, total bullshit.
