Just realized something about Voyagers...

Phineas Bogg must have been modeled after Han Solo. In the middle of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi mania.

He calls Jeffrey "kid" all the time ala Han Solo. He wears the boots with the pants with side stripes like Han Solo. He's got that 'devil may care' thing Han Solo has.

The unknown possibly shady path.

That grumpy hard shell exterior masking a soft core.

Great show. I loved it as a child. Loved it I wanted to be them.

Phineas Bogg is Han Solo.

Movie were imitated endlessly in tv shows such as Jaws inspiring Jabberjaw and Mr Jaws Saturday morning cartoons.

One of my faves was a shark emerging from the water in one cartoon and holding the pose like the Jaws poster.

Star Wars would do the same thing; imitated in cartoons and the like.

There's no reason why Han Solo couldn't have done the same here.

One of the best would undeniably be Scott Valentine's imitation of Sylvester Stallone on Family Ties in the guise of Mallory's boyfriend, Nick.

Phineas Bogg was a pirate prior to becoming a voyager, so in a way your theory is spot on because Han Solo was a Corellian Pirate who smuggled spice from the planet Kessel.

It could likewise be said that Jake, the star of the 1982-83 "Tales of the Gold Monkey" series was inspired by Indiana Jones

What other type of movie and TV characters sometimes wear boots and pants with side stripes?

What about military men? The United States cavalry, for example. They usually wear riding boots, and 19th century US cavalry, infantry, and artillery pants often had side stripes. https://www.google.com/search?q=united+states+cavalry+uniforms&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj2uuq0pufKAhXCHh4KHZbCDDkQsAQIHA&biw=1280&bih=887

In fact there was a scene, probably in The Empire Strikes Back, where I thought Han Solo's pants with the stripes looked sort of like cavalry pants.
