Is this a good show?

In your opinion

Yes, very good. There's just something compelling about Shatner, and he was in remarkable shape here. He was running and jumping like a man half his age!

Who knows what someone might get out of it. I watched it occasionally when it aired ... when there was nothing else on. Kind of hammy, Shatner in his toupee and girdle trying to not be fat and bald. This was right before cop shows made a huge change. It was along the line of Adam-12 or CHiPs ... maybe if you liked them you would like TJH.

For the time it was standard and decent entertainment. Even at the time though it was kind of empty like most TV shows back then, really simple.

I doubt it would hold up today.

I thought TJ Lazer was better.

reply

Yes. Good storylines, including one that acknowledges that not all criminals are evil, but it makes clear that what they do is evil and deserves punishment, even as they are getting help. My only problem with the show is too many car chases, but at least from what I saw they were responsibly done, for the most part.

Those opening credits and that theme make it all worthwhile. An essential part of Shatner's ouvre, TJ Hooker helped to re-establish him as the pre-eminent star of the small screen, as in the fall of 1982 he faced a new competitor for that title in the form of young David hasselhoff, an actor who would go on to the same great heights with both Knight Rider and Baywatch.
