Adrian Zmed/Officer Romano leaving show Question?

Does anyone know/remember if they had a episode of him leaving the show or did he just leave between seasons and never mention as to why he left?
Thanks

I am not positive about why he left but I do know that he was the host of a remake of "Dance Fever" tv show from 1985-1987 and he left Hooker in 1985. I knew him personally in the late 70's/early 80's just before his career took off and he loved dance. He had a sweetheart of a wife and they now have two sons. Missed my first wedding but got to the reception......just a lovely guy and I am pretty sure hosting a dance show where he got to show his stuff would have sucked him in (plus being a new father at the time might have been an incentive). Hope this answers your question somewhat!

Romano just left between seasons and they never mentioned as to why he left.

I also wondered about Romano's mysterious & sudden disappearance. When I started watching the A&E re-runs I remembered that he left somewhere along the line, but I could not remember how or why. Anyway, somewhere along the line, he disappeared again, but as I had not watched it every night, I just assumed that his departure was in one of the episodes I missed. When A&E started re-runs of the re-runs, I made a point of trying to find out why he left, & thought that perhaps he got transferred, or moved away or something. I never got an answer, though. All of a sudden, Bam! he's gone again. I then just came to the conclusion that he just disappeared, & that was that.

Wasn't he attending night school to become a lawyer? Maybe we were just supposed to assume that he got his degree and moved on to other things.........

When TJ Hooker moved from ABC to CBS late Night in 1985 that all the cast were taking a pay cut to do season 5 and Zmed refuse the pay cut and left.

maybe he thought his film career would skyrocker being that bachelor party came out or maybe this was later. either way i have to say it was not as good without zmed. i thought he and shatner had great chemistry together. the episode where they finally fall in love is groundbreaking, especially for the eighties.

Not funny.

Haha...great post.

I like Zmed much more than Darren but he sure did enjoy showing off in those mini-shorts whenever he could. He was really funny in Bachelor Party too. Seems like a gret bloke in real life too.

Zmed had the opportunity to replace Denny Terio as host of Dance Fever. Zmed was a great dancer and loved it, so he took the gig when T.J. Hooker was cancelled by ABC rather than continuing on when CBS picked it up for their late night programming.

What the exact timing was, I don't know. (Did he take the Dance Fever gig before CBS picked up Hooker, or after?) I do know that it killed Zmed's career. Disco was dead, and it was the most UN-hip move he could have made. Terio was hugely popular on Dance Fever, and the remaining viewers didn't really warm up to Zmed. He was forever linked to disco after that, and his career was diminished greatly as a result.

It's too bad, he was really good on Hooker, and he could do both comedy and drama well. I always hoped for a return of T.J. Hooker in the 90's with Hooker as the Captain and Romano as a Sergeant with a rookie as his partner. It was never going to happen, but it could have been great...
