are you people serious?

this is the funniest show i have ever seen!

"swaarm, swaaaaaarm, SWAAAAARM!!!" lmao

...you can't possibly watch this other than to laugh at how cheesy it is!

reply

i've got to agree with you there...
it's almost like a spoof, you know?
(i love it though!)

reply

When I watched it initially, I was between 4-6 years old. Of course I loved it, and part of the love comes from fond memories.

Nowadays, I love it because it so completely stupid and funny. Unlike other cartoons I used to watch, which are just embarrassing now, which took themselves way too seriously.

There were some silly episodes in the 24 episode run no doubt, Ms. Lyons could be a bit too much, and there is some cheesy dialogue. But there are also many standouts in this series like "Along Came Spidey" and "A Firestar is Born".

The music was awesome and voice talent Dan Gilzevan (who voiced Bumblee in Transformers) remains the best Peter Parker/Spider-Man voice IMO. Stan Lee's narration was great too. I thought it got stupid, but not TOO stupid for my tastes. It never became Wonder Twins (from Superfriends) stupid to me.

reply

I never liked this series, Spidey seemed completely out of place with two companions by his side. I know he often teamed up with other characters on a one-off basis, but to have teamed regularly with two companions? Sorry, it just doesn't cut it - part of what what made Spidey what he was, was the fact that he generally worked alone

reply

Lol the swarm episode was gold!!! But the show didn’t take itself too seriously it was great fun then and even now.

Also, the show holds up well when you consider the -other- superhero action show at the time, Superfriends. Basically, the Superfriends were all the same boring character defined only by their costume and powers (and gender, in the case of Wonder Woman). At least the spider-man characters had personality.

reply

Yeah, the main characters of this (Marvel Comics-based) show have more personality than the main characters of the various versions of (DC Comics-based) "Super Friends". (Marvel has done more for the personality portion of comicbook storytelling than DC) What with being college students in their secret identities (love how special superhero equipment is hidden in the apartment building where they live), the Spider-Friends have lives that don't revolve around saving the world (unlike the Super Friends, who spend an inordinate amount of time waiting for trouble to break out). Plus, Spider-Friends stories tended to be a bit more believeable than Super Friends stories; there was less of a campy feel (e.g. absurd sidekicks) and less likelihood of characters doing things that should be in excess of their capabilities (e.g. a non-flying character sometimes happening to take flight).

Only 80's babies can truly enjoy these type of cartoons, 90's babies can't appreciate anything from the 80's or even 70's for that matter. 90's babies have all the CGI type stuff and other forms of animation not used during the 80's.

reply

jackson , you're not being accurate. There are alo of 90's babies who are very nostalgic for the 80's. Look at youtube. I've seen so many showsdownloaded to that site that it makes me feel like we are in the 80's. All we have to do is bring back big hair and parachute pants and we're back.

Although acid wash jeans must and should be forgotten.

reply

I don't expect to enjoy a cartoon meant for kids as an adult.
