In "A Steele at Any Price" I'm missing something."......

This was the episode where Conant art galleries kidnaps an investigative reporter, as they are putting masterpieces, and copies under "Pitkins".

I was watching this episode again the other day, and I realized, I don't understand why they're putting fake masterpieces under Pitkins. I can understand why you'd hide masterpieces, but why would you need frauds?

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Thank you very much in advance!

If I remember correctly, he was trying to rip off the prime who were buying the stolen masterpieces. It's not like they could go to the cops...

I refuse to be outwitted by a 2-dimensional character in a cheap romantic thriller!

Weren't some of those people notorious for killing if they didn't get what they wanted? You're most likely correct, though. That has to be it. Than you!

They were hiding the masterpieces under the Pitkins to smuggle them, legitimately, through customs. After doing so for awhile, they began shipping fakes and reselling the masterpieces.
