DVD?

Man, I would love to see this on DVD! I loved this series as a kid. Of course if I saw it now I'd probably cringe. But, I'd still buy it.

I've never seen this series before. I'm from Australia. I've seen the Laverne & Shirley where they are in the army with that pig.I've also seen the one where Fonzie is in a time machine. However I've never seen The Fonz & Laverne & Shirley in a cartoon together. This would be great. I hope someone can find it and put it on a DVD.

Really? You wouldn't happen to have any info or anything on if or when HB or Paramount might ever put these shows on DVD?

reply

How about, 'NEVER'.

The characters are owned by a different company (CBS Studios) than the company that made it (Hanna-Barbera) and as such, there are legal issues blocking it ever being on DVD (this also applies to The Fonz & The Happy Days Gang, The Little Rascals, Gilligan's Island, Gilligan's Planet, plus a few others. Until those issues are dealt with, you won't be seeing a DVD of this show.

So the shows sit on a shelf somewhere gathering dust? Well that seems kind of dumb. CBS and Hanna-Barbera are only letting the bootleggers make money from it.

reply

No, they're not. All that needs to be done is for CBS Studios to authorize and act upon getting said shows on DVD-after all, those properties are theirs. Warner Bros. (which owns H-B) can't do diddley-squat about it, except make DVD's of the Gilligan shows, which they own the rights to.

When I meant 'never', I meant that it (Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour)couldn't just be released on DVD by Warner Home Video, because it was a work-for-hire project done by H-B for Paramount Television; CBS Studios controls the rights. CBS Studios probably considers this show to be bad, or at least have not enough fans that would translate into buyers, for it to be put on DVD. If people want to see it on DVD they can always go here (tvshowsondvd.com) or here (https://www.facebook.com/cbshomeentertainment) and request that it be put on DVD by the MOD service of CBS Video ( I warn you, there's not a lot of love for this show, and Seth McFarlane's negative comments on it have probably influenced people to agree with him about the show.)

While i agree there may be some distain you are really grasping at straws there to suggest there wouldn't be an audience and somehow Seth Macfarlene's comments will have any reprocusions.

The money WB is making on lesser shows is apparent, at some point the other studios that haven't already are going to take notice. Endemol still has their HB releases in print, those have been seen just a less as these ones and didn't have popular sitcom characters and they clearly have found their audiences.

And internet slander doesn't mean **** to money. More people bought Sealab 2020 then SWAT KATS. The former being a show the internet acts like everyone found boring and hated and the latter being one of the internet's best shows ever!

I expect CBS will bite as we go on. Things seem good Sony will be dishing out their two eventually through their MOD service, or at the very least they can license them to WB which at this point would gladly take it. If the Pac-Man cartoon is money in the 2010s, animated Fonz sure the hell will be too.
