Wow, how irrelevant has this show become?

As the title says, this show has become so irrelevant in the 24/7 cable news channel environment.

It's a taped, once a week political debate show competing against channels that have hour after hour of live political debate every single day!

I've also noticed that in a vane attempt to capture a wider audience, they've added that conservative hack job lady to the panel just to provide a loud tea party voice to yell at Eleanor. I don't find this entertaining in the least and miss the days of more civilized discussion and the witty remarks of Larry O'Donnell!

It's sad too because, at one time, this was the only show out there doing political panel debates! Now it gets lost in a sea of competition! I'm surprised John McLaughlin continues hosting it!

Actually, this show is once again the only show that doing political debates. CNN's crossfire, my absolute favorite (oh how I miss Tom Braden's rapport with Robert Novak) isn't on anymore (thanks Jon Stewart). What I like about this show is the continuity. John, Elanor and Pat have been on since the beginning (I myself have been watching it since it came on in 82).

The 24/7 news' version of political discussion is disgustingly ignorant and empty. Biased ignorant host asks "guest" (guest is always either A. Friend B. Enemy) loaded childish questions. People bicker about non-issues, and then the 3 minute "discussion" is over, next!

It's pathetic. This show has never been a favorite of mine, it has some of the same problems, but it still seems to be the standard bearer for intelligent or at least hemi-courteous discourse.

When people on TV aren't looking down every minute or two to properly cite their sources, or quote accurate data, then you know we're a looong way away from even gradeschool level debating.

This show was extremely influential at one time but like the others mention, it's aged. That said it's made a semi-comeback of sorts. It's better now than four years ago.

"The McLaughlin Group" should go the same way as "Capital Gang" and "Crossfire," straight into television retirement.
