European DVD

Found this on Ebay

Do a search in the DVD & Movie catagory for Marco Polo. It was made in 1982 and starred Ken Marshall.

At least one seller states:

This is a new European region 2 PAL DVD. Make sure that you are able to play region 2 DVD's and/or have a PAL to NTSC converter to view it on NTSC TVsets.

This DVD will play on any computer equipped with a DVD-ROM drive.

NTSC is the format for US/Canada

Hi,
Thanks a real lot for the info you provided. It was long time dream for me to get this fantastic mini series on DVD, but could never find it on any store in the US. I had initially tried to buy it online from www.bol.nl but could not make head or tail of the Dutch language on the site and hence could not order it from there. Thanks to your advice, I easily found the DVD on hub.ebay.com. There were 4 different sellers who were offering the DVD but I found the seller EXPATDAVID to be the best and ordered it from him. I received the DVD in hand 2 days back and I felt like the luckiest guy in the world to finally lay my hands on this hard to find DVD. The DVD offered to me was factory sealed and absolutely brand new. The DVD was PAL and REGION 2, however thanks to my multi-region DVD player and my multi-system TV, I had no problems at all in playing it. The quality of the DVD in impeccable. The DVD menu and most of the text on the cover box of the DVD is in English. I could easily switch off the optional Dutch subtitles via the DVD menu. The picture quality is Ok. It has not been digitally remastered, however. The video quality does look a wee bit wishy-washy and shows some visible scratches in some scenes, but overall, the Video quality is very good. The audio is perfect and is in Dolby digital 5.1.

If anyone needs help with the translation of Dutch --> English, then please let me know.

I have been enchanted with this story since I was 8 years old. It's the first thing I truly remember with my heart from TV.

My profile will have my email address.

I also got mine in about 5 days. My friend Jesse Dizon (who plays the Tibetan Monk) has been looking for a copy for some years now. We plan on having a viewing with several actor friends on this. I'm glad I was able to find it.

I'm surprised to hear this mini series is so hard to come by outside the Netherlands.

I recently bought it for a mere 7.98 euros from a shop called Kruidvat.

Not sure they accept foreign orders though.

I just got finished watching the Dutch DVD - amazing movie, and certainly I am glad I finally got to see it. The cast is a real knockout - I'm surprised F. Murray Abraham gets so walked on through the whole thing, especially after watching NAME OF THE ROSE. Anne Bancroft is disappointingly in only one scene and does the whole thing in a bed. However Tony Lo Bianco and Leonard Nimoy both have pretty meaty roles. Kung Fu movie legend Tad Horino really shines in his one scene too. Gordon Mitchell has a few lines, and even Franco Fantasia and Vladek Sheybal appear unbilled. Bruno Corrazari (as unknown as he is) does some surprisingly good acting as one of Polo's tagalongs, and then gets killed off in between scenes.

The best 2 things about it - cinematography and score. Ennio Morricone has rarely done better than this. It's magical and truly befits the experience.

The DVD has a few problems - a few BETA tape dropouts pop up, and a lot of the color is really washed out in the darker prison scenes. Also, there is some bad splicing resulting in some terrible jump-cuts.

The DVD is pretty bare-bones too, only English language and Dutch subs. That's it. But I'm more than glad that I own the whole thing.

I bought the Dutch dvd set a while back and was initially very happy about it. That is until I found out that it is not the complete uncut version! A completely uncut dvd version featuring many new scenes was released in Hungary and I managed to buy this version. It features many additional and longer scenes. Episode 2 especially is much longer and we actually get to see the on-screen death of Agostino (Bruno Corazzari). The new footage also features Andrew Keir (as an old shepherd) and Antonella Murgia (as Zora) - they are not present at all on the Dutch set. There's also an additional scene in which Pietro de Abano (Vernon Dobtcheff) is introduced. I can't specifically remember all the additional material, though, and the Hungarian set is dubbed in Hungarian without any English options. Very sad because the picture qaulity is better than the Dutch set too....

What is the running time of the Hungarian release?
