TV Land should start airing LNWDL!!!!!

Would'nt be great if TV LAND would start Reruning LNWDL I was so disapointed for some reason or another the creeps at Trio dropped Classic Dave to see him in his glory days more on edge more Spontaneous along with Calvert Deforest and Bill Windell and Chris Elliott.I mean for what reason did the cable company drop Trio for If anyone knows please feel free to drop a line.

reply

Trio stopped transmissions on December 31, 2005. The announcement had been made a month prior, and the reason was mainly because DirecTV dropped Trio from its services at the end of 2004- which may have sounded the death knell for Trio.

Anyway, I would love to see this show in repeats again sometime.... I miss classic Dave!

reply

I can't believe some people really likes Dave in this day and time. This one guy told me in a bold tone that I really suck because I thought Letterman should finally retire since he's lost all he spontainous and on edge that the old Dave had so well.Did you watch Letterman the time when he dropped by the GE Headquaters and tryed to present them with a basket of fruit instead of listening to the goons at GE told him he would have to clear the building Old Dave ( The days when he wore sneakers and kakeis). He just did the opposite walked right in and all hell broke loose. So yeah I really wish that T.V Land would start airing Classic Dave To see him once More in his Prime.

reply

Yes, I saw that moment, and I can sum up it up in two words: Pure classic. It was probably one of the defining moments of Letterman's time on the network.

reply

Why do you think so many of these morons love Dave in this day and time.If they just could watch dave back in the late Night days I believe once and for all they would change there minds don't you agree with me.

reply

For me, the defining Late Night moment was when Dave tried to break up the live Today show by shouting at the production through a window with a bullhorn. That was pure comic anarchy. I remember him addressing Willard Scott, voice dripping with sarcasm, saying something like "Willard, there's a woman here who's a hundred years young!"

reply

CBS should acquire the classic Dave shows and run them in place of the current Late Show which has been going downhill for awhile and has finally reached the bottom of the barrel. Dave should retire immediately. It's already too late to retire at the top of his game but for goodness sake, don't wait to sink any lower.

it would be great to see some of the old shows on tv. you can see clips from them on www.youtube.com

"Late Night with David Letterman" is to good to be on "TV Land", a waste of a cable channel thanks to network re-branding.

This is absolutely, positively the best television show of all time!

All those who think "Late Night" & "Late Show" are the same are completely delusional.

That's like comparing "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" with "Airwolf".

Brilliant show and the best part was always the studio audience NEVER forcibly clapped, which left Dave to fend and feud brilliantly.

As for the "Late Show", I don't think it 'jumped the shark' when Dave went into politics but I do think this occurred after or shortly before his open heart surgery, probably around 2000-2001.

It's best years were 1993-1996 and 1999.

Now it's just another TV show with a host.

Anyway, does anybody know the airdate or a Youtube clip of him calling the head of Late Night programming on CBS to complain about their use of "Late Night"?

This is a good idea. Maybe if they ran the old Johnny Carson show before airing the old David Letterman stuff...

I do not understand why another channel doesn't pick up the rights to air the re-runs. Why was Trio the only one to give it a go? I wish Comedy Central would air the old episodes, actually. And I wish they got the rights back to SNL because the reruns on VH1 are so hit and miss and only recent episodes, but that's slightly off topic.

reply

I'm still trying to figure out why Letterman hasn't bought the rights to the show as of yet.

reply

I totally agree...we need these reruns...this is classic Dave and it was the best. And side note, while I do appreciate Netflix having every season of SNL, I hate how most are truncated. Not sure if it is a "rights" issue but they are missing some good sketches. For example, where are MOST of the Ed Grimley's? Where is Travolta's Gay Dracula?

I want a DVD boxed set of this show. Full episodes, with a few of the commercials for `80's movies and TV shows included. Give me a couple dozen episodes and that should keep me happy for awhile.

Sorry to "spam," but I recently got to interview Joe Toplyn, who worked with Dave for six years on "Late Night" and also six years on "Late Show." We covered all kinds of things, including the reason for the freeform, off-the-wall feel of the old show compared to the more refined and subdued tone of today.

The show is here: http://bitly.com/1pMbmkX

I hope to add to this series of Letterman-oriented interviews in the future. Hope you enjoy.

reply

Even if they struck a deal with Netflix and put every episode of the classic shows on there I would be happy.
