started Season 1

Been watching a lot of older TV shows lately. Some DVDs of which I've had for years and never got around to. I don't own all the Seasons of these shows, and some of my DVDs are "Best of" sets (MAGNUM P.I., MIAMI VICE) so I'm making with what I have.

So far I'd say my favorites that I've watched recently are HAWAII FIVE-O Seasons 1 and 2, STARSKY AND HUTCH season 1, and CHARLIE'S ANGELS season 1. I think I watched that one years ago, but I obviously never appreciated it at the time, because after watching the whole season, I'll admit I forgot nearly everything about it, other than Tommy Lee Jones being in the Pilot.

Anyway, I just finished the Pilot for KNIGHT RIDER. Good so far, plus Pamela Susan Shoop guest stars, who was also in the first episode of MAGNUM P.I.

Got the Season 1 DVD at Costco for less than ten bucks, good deal considering the BEST OF set was only two dollars cheaper, but had less episodes.

KNIGHT RIDER used to be my favorite show as a kid. I still watch it for nostalgic value. I own all seasons.

I think seasons 2 and 3 are the best - that's when the show really hit its stride!

However, season 1 has some great episodes too and the pilot episode may very well be the best episode of the entire series! Maybe the best pilot of any show. It's fantastic! Keep an eye out for "Good Day at White Rock", "A Plush Ride", "Chariot of Gold", and "White Bird" - the best season 1 episodes!

Connery, Moore, and Brosnan! Accept NO substitutes!

Those were some good ones. KNIGHT RIDER 2000 wasn't too bad either.

Remember to ignore these boards before making your own judgments.

For example, the most brilliant episode, 'Trust Doesn't Rust' has the most 'Knight Rider' moments ever. Hilarious and yet menacing dialogue between K.A.R.R. and others, philosophical core to the story (which you almost never see), and not only about the Xeno's paradox, but also 'which is better, a 'superior' prototype or a mere production-line copy, that's an improved model.

The way this episode toys with these ideas is great. The idea and concept of 'duel' of two super-powerful A.I.s wrapped in indestructible, beautiful cars is always great, too.

But for some reason, there's a troll in these forums that wants to bash THIS particular episode, although it's great in all possible ways and levels. It doesn't have a 'romantic interest', so it stays on point with more interesting stuff.

It has revelation as to what can destroy K.I.T.T. (and K.A.R.R.), it has amazingly atmospheric beginning in a nightly laboratory, where the whole philosophy about 'feelings' is also introduced.

K.A.R.R.'s character arc is also very interesting, and as a villain, it's unpredictable and believable. This episode also has a lot of comedy - almost everything K.A.R.R. says in that wonderful voice is either amazingly funny or feels 'serious and menacing'.

The different viewpoints of all three villains also create a beautiful and exciting dynamic.

In the end, K.A.R.R. remains a bit of a mystery - no one can truly understand or predict his personality or actions.

The episode even ends very atmospherically and philosophically, it's a brilliant ending to a brilliant episode. So what if it has a slightly implausible diamond heist at one point, where guards just slowly walk backwards, etc.

The undercurrent of this episode has so many layers, from 'betrayal' (but who is betraying whom?) to philosophy to Michael, Bonnie and K.I.T.T.'s relationships and functionality (we see more of how K.I.T.T. works, etc.)

Season 1 isn't the best otherwise, but this one episode elevates it above the rest. If more episodes were like this, this would the best show in the whole world. The cheesy sequel in a later season just misses the mark completely in all possible ways, and isn't that interesting.

(It also retcons this episode)

So I seriously recommend 'Trust Doesn't Rust' - it's almost pure action from beginning to end, and it has amazing car chases - how often do you get to see basically 'two K.I.T.T.s' chasing each other? It's absolutely beautiful and couldn't be more exciting!

I don't know why that one troll feels some kind of primal urge to bash this, but I see no flaws in this compared to so many other episodes of almost any season. I also love the small 'banterlike debates' between K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R.... they also display the differences between the personalities.
