I kind like the 77 Trans Am look a lot better. Aka: Smokey and the Bandit. But a 82 model done up like Kitt looks pretty damn awesome too.

reply

70s cars had the perfect blend of sleek and curves. The 70s vettes are the best looking too, and it's not a nostalgia thing because I'm a 80s/90s kid.

reply

I remember watching this as a kid and thinking how cool the inside was...and now cars actually look sorta like this. And the amazing thing was that the car could talk to you and now cars can talk. But not as witty as KITT though LOL.

Don't bother sweating over your bills, in the end we all wind up in the hole!

reply

Er no. Any Aston Martin looks a lot better. No good for an American series though.

It was the reboot of the American musclecar. After 1972, everything got de-tuned and started getting smog equipment.

In 1982, Ford hit the ground running with the Mustang GT, & GM countered with all new Camaro's & TA's. With these new looks & more HP than before, it proved very popular. I was in high school & my dad just couldn't resist a new '83 Camaro Z-28 w/T-Tops. Had some fun in that car...the few times he let me drive it.

And those are awesome to drive. I had the chance to drive a GTA, and it was almost frightening how much it stuck to the road in corners :)

In my opinion the proportions of the 82'-92' Firebird/Trans Am are the best of any car of the era.

K.I.T.T. was the coolest car.

reply

The transam was very futuristic, which is why it works so well as KITT. it's also why the reboot didn't work with the 'retro' designed mustang.

reply

I don't think the choice of car was the main problem. Making it into a 'transformer' didn't help, though.

reply

Season 4 TOS did a 'transformer' thing with Super Pursuit Mode. (yeah, BS i know).

I've always loved the Trans am of that era, especially when it has the K.I.T.T nose and tail lenses. It looks like it's going a hundred when it's standing still.

reply

The body looked good. But a great V8? It made like 150 hp from a 5 liter engine.

reply

Ever drive one of those 80s Trans-Ams? It feels like you're about two inches off the ground, and that rear wheel drive makes it a coffin on wheels in rain or snow.

DeLorean, Pontiac's various models, and the Camaro share a 'similar' body design style.

This kind of style is really nice, but I am not overly impressed by all of them.

K.I.T.T. has a unique shape, being 'futuristicized' for the show, that you can't really compare to anything else, and it is indeed impressive and gorgeous in some ways. I don't really like it being black, though (would probably be hot in the summer), but somehow that suits this show, as in the evening shots, it can be like a ninja with a scary red light and other lights when necessary.

reply

Also being a black car fits with the "knight" as in "night rider."

I like Scarlett Johanssons's better. And with the Trans Am, if you don't wait long enough, your thing will get burned in the tailpipe.

Not even close in my opinion. The second-generation Dodge Charger had the best looking body style ever, followed by the Ferrari 308. Here are some more performance cars (which includes muscle, pony, sports, and GT) that look better than the third-generation Firebird, in no particular order:

Porsche 911 (pre-1995)
Corvette (second, third, and even fourth generations, but just barely for the fourth)
Lamborghini Countach (especially the original LP400)
Lamborghini Miura
Plymouth Road Runner (first and second generations, emphasis on first)
Dodge Super Bee (1968-1970)
Ford Torino (second-generation fastback)
Pontiac Firebird (second-generation)
Pontiac GTO (first-generation)
Ford Mustang (1969 and 1970)
Plymouth Barracuda (third-generation)
Maserati Ghibli
De Tomaso Pantera
Jaguar E-Type
Maserati Khamsin

The best I can say about the third-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is that it was the second-best looking American car that was designed in the 1980s (just slightly behind the C4 Corvette). Also, I didn't add "in my opinion" to everything I typed, but it goes without saying.

reply

No. The 80s Camaro Z28 was better.

Trans Am was better in the 70s.

60s was a wash. Firebird and Camaro both beasts.
