He either had a room at the Foundation, or slept in the car while on missions. Or while on vacation which was very rare, in hotel rooms.

I watched most all of the episodes, including some that have played recently on G4, and I don't recall it ever being stated where Michael lived. Must be one of those things we are asked, as viewers, to believe existed but was never shown.

To me, "adressing" that would be akin to addressing where he went to relieve himself after a big meal or when he had drank a lot of water.
It's not relevant, it's not interesting, it's a 'who cares' situation. Besides, the whole thing is more exciting this way, and he and K.I.T.T. feel more omnipotent and more omnipresent, if they're not tied to any one location or base - so they can just 'be', they can just 'live', and be anywhere, and do any kinds of missions.
Would you be happy to see them living in an apartment somewhere, and always having to pack for missions, do his laundry and cook his meals... why bring mundaneity to an 'exciting', almost 'supernatural' show?
P.S. I just _LOVE_ how K.A.R.R. speaks in 'Trust Doesn't Rust' - a brilliant episode that I love the most. The dialogue between K.A.R.R. and the hobos is so well written and performed, it gives me the chills - it's SO funny while still being 'realistic' and immersive. A mark of genius.
The way it pronounces and intonates words is so perfectly done - he's menacing, arrogant, egotistical and overly serious - and really nicely robotic, while still having 'human qualities'. l
