why do you say an upgrade? do they look a lot better than the dvds?

reply

I haven't even seen them and I know they are.

The only reason people should still be using DVDs is if they have CRT TVs. Oh wait, NO-ONE DOES, NOW!

reply

CRT is best for watching old tv shows.

reply

Yes, they are, because those TV shows are most likely videotape in origin, as most BBC sitcoms were, and DVDs carry over the videotape aspect perfectly, but who has CRTs these days? It's possible there are some CRTs about, but it won't be long before they fall into disrepair.

reply

Only hardcore retro afficionados still use CRTs nowadays.

reply

But DVDs SUCK on all other types of display. Yes, they do.

reply

LMAO...NO...NOT EVEN CLOSE.

reply

Well, I don't like them.

reply

I LOVE BLU RAYS...DVD FILLS THE GAP IN TITLES AND PRICE THOUGH...I HAVE A LARGE COLLECTION AND UPGRADING THEM ALL FROM VHS AND DVD WOULD BE A FORTUNE AND NOT POSSIBLE WITH A LOT OF THE TITLES.

reply

Fair enough. However, I've ditched all my DVDs now, and use streamed versions instead. The Blu-rays are still around, however.

reply

20,000 DEEP HERE...I DONT DO STREAMING,YET...THE FUTURE IS FORCING MY HAND THOUGH.

reply

Streaming is so convenient, especially for TV shows that would otherwise be on many discs, particularly where you'd have to find the right one.

reply

but it's not always that way for instance when they released lord of illusions on blu ray it wasn't that much better than the dvd because they didn't adequately remaster or restore it. what are CRT tvs?

reply

CRT televisions are the old "tube" box-shaped TVs, in use from the second half of the 20th century until around 2010, before they got replaced by the HD LCD screens kids like you are no doubt used to.
