Where is KITT now?

Quick question. I'm trying to find out if KITT is on display anywhere. I know years ago, the car used to be at Universal, but apparently not anymore. A friend of mine told me (and swore) that it was at MGM in Orlando now. My 3 year old daughter is obsessed with Knight Rider and I really want to see it somehow. Does anyone know where you can go see KITT?

reply

Of course, she is.

Universal Hollywood use to have a car on display as well as 2-3 cars on the backlot...I know the display car and voice were retired back in 1996, but I wouldn't doubt that a couple of stunt cars are on the backlot somewhere.

the car was selled some time ago to a fan.. i dont remember where did i read about it, though.

One of the KITTS was at Universal, however there are several of them that where made for the show. One sold last year on ebay, but I dont know if it was an original or a custom job.

There is a stunt driver on the internet somewhere who still has the KITT in Super Pursuit Mode style. Google around and you should be able to find that.

And there is also a few rumors that the new Knight Rider show is planning to have Micheal Knight and KITT(2000) come into to save the day in the next season. It's been hinted at since the first episode, as KIT2000 was not seen, nor did they show how Micheal Knight got to the funeral scene... so presumably, he still has it, and the original KITT will be back for an episode or two hopefully. So the producers of that series may know where it is, and track it down for it's guest appearance, as I doubt they would want to build another one.

Another thing I heard which may just be bull as well, they planned to have KITT2000 in the new series as a regular guest appearance, but the owner of the vehicle will not allow them to upgrade KITT2000 as the time between the series end and ignoring the KR2000 movie, it would make sense that KITT2000 would have had many upgrades in the last 20 years, but the owner will not let them modify the original.

But again, as to if this is true or not, I can not tell you.

I remember seeing KITT at Universal but there wasn't much to see.
The windows were darkly tinted and the doors locked probably to hide an utterly trashed interior, so it was basically just a scuffed and dusty body sitting there without even having a working scanner on the front.
It was pretty sad really.
They could've at least given it a wash once in a while.

Don't vote, it only encourages the bastards.

I read it was in some dude's Garage in Mission Beach Ca.

I know the Hoff himself still owns at least 2 of the original KITTs. I watched a program on British tv where he showed all his cars in the parking lot, and among them there were 2 KITTs which he said were from the original tv show.

When I went to Universal Studios in 1989, I was able to sit in the driver's seat. The dashboard as it was seen on the show was intact, and somebody was playing the voice of KITT, obviously someone in a control room somewhere. It was cool that they still had KITT on display three years after the show ended, and apparently, as somebody indicated earlier, it was on display for a full decade after the show's cancellation.

Whoa, you were really lucky. I'd love to have the same experience you did but it's pretty much impossible. Different country.

reply

Nice. The Hoff has a certain appreciation for KITT and that's rather a beautiful act of his to not just sell them off or dump them somewhere.

KITT lives on!

KITT is currently in the hands of George Barris at Star Cars, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Star Cars is a great place, I had the pleasure of visiting it a couple of years ago and got TONS of pictures of KITT as well as pretty much every other famous car in the place.

My one let down was that they only had the front end of Christine on display at the top of a set of stairs, I was hoping that they had the whole car.

the hoff has the originals or at least 2 of them.

I know because in australia 1-2yrs back on this football show called 'the footy show' they had this guy on who was suppose to talk about his role as a captain or crap that, on a new cop show that was going to be broadcasted on tv.

He looks older now, but in his hey days he use to be this really young aussie bloke with a serious role in 'bay watch' ...

He talks about gettting invited over the hoffs house and he talks about the hoff showing off his albums and his 'knight rider cars' and stuff.

p.s I saw 'K.i.T.T when I was a kid in the 80's i think maybe 88? yeah it was expo'88 in australia

it was a beautiful new K.I.T.T car but I was too shy to go in the car, I'm ashamed of myself sa you can sit inside and talk to the voice actor. *sighs* I'm stupid.
