HAHAHA - once my office played cubicle name that tune using tv show theme songs, one or two people were challenging me but I distinguished myself with a few notable themes (like BJ and the Bear, certain Game Shows, etc) ... but then the first few piano chords were played and I said, 'Joanie Loves Chachi' - everyone laughed and then the player said 'he's right' - the competition quit and ceremoniously bowed to me in homage. Very funny moment.

The reality is, we had no cable growing up and so I was forced to watch the same shows over and over again.

I sat in front of the TV speaker with a tape recorder to tape that song.
I am still laughing! That's great.

This is one of the best theme songs of all time in my opinion, regardless of whether you like the show or not. Not only the actual song and music itself, but the way the video shots were done. They start off in the empty club and then it slowly fills up with people and then ultimately they are singing the duet to an SRO crowd - great stuff!

Finally proof that I did not imagine this show existed. LOL. I don't think I ever watched it, though...usually I remember theme songs, and this one didn't really ring a bell.

The first time they sang the theme song was in the Happy Days episode Broadway It's Not, which aired on February 10, 1981. Thank you imbd ! The episode just aired on the HUB channel a few days ago.
I too recorded the song on a cassette from Joanie Loves Chachi. I did not know about this longer version until I saw the episode mentioned above.
Great theme song, not a great sitcom.

I fell in love with that song and I did see it originally on the Happy Days episode. On that episode it is longer with the 2nd verse in it which is not in the theme song for the series.

I know I watched the series but don't recall a lot about it however I did like the romance between them. I always felt it was romantic and they truly loved each other in the Happy Day series and then in their own. Chachi was always so loving toward Joanie.

Here are some versions on youtube of it from the Happy Days Episode "Broadway It's Not"

The first was just the song from that episode. THe 2nd is a better sounding version of it where the poster put the title of the episode over the vid and the 3rd is the last part of that episode that shows you the storyline and drama that leads up to them doing the song.

I, too, sat in front of the TV with a tape recorder to tape the theme song! I actually recorded it off the Happy Days episode where Chachi first sang that song to joannie, in a stage play or something... It was the next season that the JLC spinoff premiered. I still have that cassette tape, and have listened to it now and again over the years!

Cute song...I used to have a crush on Chachi...so cute, big brown eyes, and sensitive.
