Worst Spin Off

Was "Joanie Loves Chachi" the worst spin off ever?

reply

Joey certainly deserves an honorable mention.

Frasier is probably the best spin off.

I can think of several disaster spinoffs.

Married With Children spinoff Top Of The Heap (maybe King Of The Heap?)

MASH spawning AfterMASH and RADAR ( never saw RADAR, but read about it)

The Brady Bunch Variety Hour and The Brady Brides.

There was an episode of Green Acres during the last season that was a pilot for a spinoff for some show that never got picked up.

And who can forget about the Kelly Kids, which was an episode from The Brady Bunch that thankfully was never picked up.

reply

I didn't consider "The Brady Bunch Hour" variety show to be a spin off. I am still trying to figure out what it was.

reply

Worst Spin-off to me was the "Three's Company" spin-off, "Three's A Crowd". Ugh.

reply

"Three's A Crowd" seemed like a continuation of "Three's Company", not a spin off. "The Ropers" was a "Three's Company" spin off.

reply

Quite possibly....Happy Days had long run it's course as it was.

Honorable mention:

Fish (Barney Miller)
Hello Larry (Different Strokes)

Best spinoff for me was Emergency (Adam-12)

reply

704 Hauser Street.

I wonder what constitutes a bad spinoff. One that lasted an entire season like "Joanie Loves Chachi", "Three's a Crowd", "The Golden Palace". Or the ones that only lasted a few episodes like "Checking In" (4 episodes), "704 Hauser" (6 episodes) and "Jackée" (1 episode)

reply

Maybe the original poster should have specified what constitutes a bad spin off. (Hey! I am the original original poster). I guess bad means low quality more than how many episodes aired.

I think "Joanie Loves Chachi" stands out because its mother show had been so successful. And producer, the late Garry Marshall, really pushed JLC because he thought "Happy Days" was running out of gas and was hoping to move some of its cast and crew to JLC. Marshall never met a spin off he didn't like.

reply

Interesting because this would put Scott Baio in the worst TV spin off.

However Diagnosis Murderer, possibly TV's greatest ever spin off (from Jake and the Fat Man), also initially starred Scott Baio.

This would place him in both TV's greatest and worst spin off shows!

reply

Probably one of the worst television series in history.

reply

It's pretty bad. I watched the first episode recently on Youtube and found it difficult to finish

reply

Yup

Joanie Love Chachi may not even be the spin off from Happy Days, that title may belong to "Blansky's Beauty".

It starred Nancy Walker, Scott Baio (not as Chachi) and Eddie Mekka (not as the Big Ragoo).
