Rebooting the famous GILLIGAN'S ISLAND series for post-STAR WARS children.

Have never seen this cartoon but I agree it's new setting was inspired by the new popularity of scifi via STAR WARS and the revival of STAR TREK. It may have been a bad cartoon but it's not particularly a bad idea, why not move the castaways to a lost planet rather than a lost island, it could work.

There's no question that it was the popularity of "Star Wars" which led to this cartoon being made... but oddly, it was basically a retread of the 1975 Saturday Morning live-action show "Far Out Space Nuts," which producer Sid Krofft has referred to as "Gilligan in Space." In that series, Bob Denver played a janitor at NASA who accidentally launched a rocket with a crew of just himself and his coworker (Chuck McCann, who essentially played the Skipper role). Although the other castaways weren't present, "Far Out Space Nuts" had alien sidekick Honk and "Gilligan's Planet" had alien sidekick Bumper.
