How Was Bruno Written Out?

I watched his last episode from season 3 (not counting his return for the finale) and saw he was working as a waiter and Sherofsky introduced him as his former student, but I didn't see any big exit for him. He performed with Doris for a Holocaust Survivors Reunion, but other than that, nothing.

Anyone remember if they ever explained what happened to him?

They never had a final episode for Bruno. He just disappeared by the time season 4 came, no explanation was given.

It wasn't a cut and dried write out. When his father died, Bruno had to leave school. He got a job as a waiter in an Italian restaurant near the school. He also did some music for the restaurant. The kids would go there occasionally allowing Bruno to stay in the story lines. Often these didn't end well because the kids would end up dancing and singing when the restaurant owner just wanted Bruno to do light piano music for atmosphere. He appeared in fewer and fewer episodes, because it simply made no sense for EVERY episode to tie in with the restaurant. But between seasons -- I think it was between seasons three and four -- they "retooled" the show as they say. And one thing that happened was that the Italian restaurant near the school was gone. It wasn't long before the kids starting hanging out at a pizza joint/bowling alley. The owner was a bit younger than the owner of the Italian restaurant had been, and the kids were allowed to do more of their own stuff. The pizza parlor had a stage and even a floor show at times, from jugglers to lounge singers to comedians. But what it didn't have was Bruno. The Italian restaurant and he simply disappeared from the show from one season to the next.

They never picked up Lee's option for the next season. I think the writters boxed the Bruno character in. Yet they were trying to mature him which they did. I wonder what Lee thinks of what they did with Bruno in the third season.
