reading this board reminds me...

...that they did some really great thing together. i know episodes like bad news and the yob almost by heart and love 'em, but trawling through the message board brings back fond memories of episodes like the funseekers and the bullsh**ters too. and this is a good oppurtunity to raise the question, what was the music used at the end of the bullsh**ters, a totally at odds with the mood of the programme, melancholy little solo piano piece, like i say, in stark contrast to the rest of the show. believe it may have been written by king cobra as he/they are credited as writting the original music for the show, but i could be wrong

No, you're right - King Cobra (whoever that is) is credited with the music for the show and no-one else gets a separate credit. That final piece is superb and I'd love to get hold of a copy. I've often stepped back the DVD just to hear the end music again .

I agree it is totally out of character with The Bulls hitters - it's possible that KC was simply asked to write music which sounded like a 70s cop show, and while the opening music is reminiscent of Sweeney/Professionals, the close (including the credit sequence itself, in that noir-ish typeface) echoes another more obscure series - Callan (remember the swinging light bulb?) which starred a young Edward Woodward, from late 60s to early 70s .

Callan was much darker stuff than the later cop shows, hard to parody as comedy, but it would be interesting to see how Richardson/Richens approached it; it would be good to see the Comic Strip regulars try their hand in non-comedy roles .

Ever thought of recording the end piano bit as MP3 so you can listen to it as much as you like?

I just found out there was a King Kobra band which formed out of the ashes of prog rock giants Vanilla Fudge. VF Drummer Carmine Appice was in it, and is still playing with Cactus. Google "Vanilla Fudge" for more info. I think the timing is about right that these could the same, just a typo in the credits.
