Worst series starring an ex-Comic Stripper...?

I'd say Teenage Kicks takes some beating.

What the hell was Ade thinking of? He can't need the money, his missus is loaded!

Yeah, it is awful, like a worse version of My Family....and that was bad enough!!!!!

That cr@p Rik Mayal made a couple of years ago, about a "Dad" living in the middle-class suburbs with his family. Nauseating doesn't cover it.

Yeah that wasn't much cop either, but in Rik's defence at least he didn't write any of it.

Teenage Kicks is the worst of all though. What was Ade thinking of? Surely he didn't think this show was good?

Teenage Kicks is not what you want from the writer of Eddie Monsoon - A Life or the bad news episodes.

I actually like Teenage Kicks...but I think it's a disappointment when compared to Ade's other work in terms of anarchy, yes. It's very non-alternative-comedy, and that's what's so strange about it. As a traditional type of sitcom, it's actually quite good, I think. It's just hard to believe something like Teenage Kicks was written by the same guy who once delivered the legendary "NO! We're not watching the bloody Good Life!"-speech.

When it comes to the Bottom Live shows, I agree about Weapons Grade Y-Fronts (the 5th show), which was definitely of a lesser quality than the first four. I think 3 (Hooligan's Island) and 4 (2001: An Arse Oddity) were just as good as the first two, though.

I wouldn't say AbFab series 5 was less good than the rest, but different...I think Saffy having a baby and being in a relationship changed the original situation too much and made it less funny. I still think the writing was very good, though.

How could ANYONE like Teenage Kicks? It was awful!

I like the chinese dude and Ade Edmondson in it, but the daughter makes me want to punch the screen. :)

Can't say how, really. I just do. I found myself laughing aloud quite a few times while watching it, which I rarely do. There aren't many Britcoms I don't like...I'm a big fan of traditional sitcoms such as those by Perry & Croft (Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Hi-de-Hi, etc.), Only Fools and Horses and I even like The Good Life! From Yes Minister to Little Britain and Catherine Tate. What I really hate is, for example, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Yuck. I think Teenage Kicks is a bit too Good Life-y for most people...Vyvyan would probably kill me for my overall taste in comedy.

Interesting...it does feel like Elton's writing. I HATE Elton's recent poo and avoid it utterly, but I've been re-watching some old stuff like "Man From Auntie" and "Alfresco" and so I think I've got a sense of his writing style. "Teenage Kicks" smacks of his pace and language. Thanks for posting that!

ANYway...why is everyone busy lambasting one mediocre series of "Teenage Kicks" when we have several years' worth of the utterly putrid "Vicar Of Dibley" to kick around? That thing stinks like last month's leftovers. I know Dawn can't write, but did she have to team up with the legendarily cruddy Richard Curtis? Blecccch. I couldn't make it through more than 5 or 6 shows, but they left a rotten taste in my mouth. I did try a few each from the first 3 series just to make sure that it didn't improve - and boy oh boy, it didn't. I love Dawn and liked a lot of the "Murder Most Horrid" stuff, even the weaker shows, so I tried hard to like "Vicar". Totally wasted time and effort.

Also - what about the rotten little movies Rik made for TV, like "Bring Me The Head of Mavis DAvis"? That one was drearily unfunny, despite having a swell cast including Mark Heap.

"Stella Street" is cute in places, but the movie they made of it was atrocious. I'd like to say that that is Peter Richardson's worst outing, but then I think of "Eat The Rich" and realize that he made a lot of poor projects.

Interesting thread!

Maybe not starring in, but by...
Pete Richardsons 'Glam Metal Detectives'. IMO most of the best CSP episodes were his creations, so what made him create this load of ridiculous trash.

reply

Um that sounds really interesting. Where can I find it? Maybe
