The Church and Brideshead
Just curious..did the Catholic Church have anything to say about the book when it appeared? It's certainly a bit different than the Catechism and the Holy Missal.
shareCould be that it is different becuase it is a novel, not a prayer book. Im not aware of any comments from the Church.
shareMe either. I figure though that some in Vatican City itself might have reviewed the "Catholic" novel. The things in there are speaking about things that the Church looks as not being "Christian".

shareDivorce, drunkeness, suggested homosexuality were all topics in the novel....and the characters are Catholics. It's like mixing dirty laundry with the priestly cloths.
shareI dont see this. Besides not all the characters are Catholics, just the Flytes. Charles, Rex Mottram, A Blanche etc are all agnostics....
And I dont see that Catholics are immune from sin and making mistakes... so it is hardly unusual to see them making bad marraiges, divorcing, having affairs or being drunk, (or homosexual)

Sure we know they're sinners and the Vatican knows that too. I was just curious as to how the institution looked at a novel which showed all that "sin" running around in the world.
