Furguson's Death
Why did the wolves kill Furguson?
shareOnly nothing I can think of is because he killed them. Remember the movie on the film projector he was watching before he was killed? He's seen is a helicopter shooting wolves.
shareWow, I never caught that detail. It is easy to miss and with Furgey seeming pretty sympathetic to the wolves, his death is easy to question. He also seems to be regretful/crying when watching the film.
shareNot quite. He is seen watching old footage of SOMEONE killing wolves from a helicopter. Ad a zoologist obviously fascinated by the wolves he is unlikely to have hunted them.
shareMaybe that, or maybe they didn't want to be found out.

Another question is why did Ferguson think he could make friends with them? I mean he knows exactly what they're capable of, but he goes riding out like he wants to hug them and rub their bellies and play fetch. I mean really? It'd be like Hooper jumping in the water to play hoops with Bruce the Great White Shark (from Jaws). Doesn't make sense.
Also, was that bridge worker they killed a Native American? The way the movie portrays it, the Native Americans and Wolfen know of each other, and respect each other, living in harmony. So why'd they kill the bridge worker? Wouldn't he have just waved them by?
In the novel it is much clearer. He slowly works out what the Wolfen are and that as they are something between human and animal, they gave rise historically to the myth of the werewolf and the vampire (homeless humans who walk with them). He examines old books containing hand signals allegedly used to communicate with them and wants to try them.
