Question

Is this movie worth watching?

reply

Surely. I think it's a very underrated decent suspenseful slasher film. Michael Ironside plays a great villian.

reply

I agree with that! It's really underrated and worth watching.

I saw this when I was about 16 and thought it was a really good slasher/horror and it scared me loads. I spents years wanting to see it again and have watched it on TV recently. I have to say that watching it at the ripe old age of 38 is not the same and I cannot believe how tame and lame it was. I won't be watching it again. Michael Ironside was the best bit about this film.

I planned to come onto the Visiting Hours board this week because it is the 25th anniversary of its release. I do remember when it was out in theaters in late May and June, 1982 (I was 14, had just gotten out of 8th grade for the summer and completed junior high school). And I wanted to go see it then, but my mother did not take me. However, we got our first VCR and joined our first video store in late November, 1982, six months later, and she brought me three movies on DVD for Christmas that year, and this was one of them. She said it was a movie I'd wanted to see last summer but did not get to, and I immidiently thought it was Visiting Hours. I then watched it alot on our VCR with this tape through the 1980s (we sold it at a yard sale in May, 1991). But though it was never on my top movies list, I did like it well, and thought it was good, suspenseful, exciting, and had a strong plot and storyline (more so than most movies of this genre). And I also remembering thinking it had a very unusual cast for a slasher movie-saying it may be the only horror movie that has an all star cast (in William Shatner, Lee Grant, Michael Ironside, Linda Purl-she was big then). So yes, I think it is definitely worth watching, and now would be a great time to at its 25th anniversary. And with it now out on DVD I hope to see it again soon on that. I may feel the same way you do if I see it again soon BridgeE987, as I'm 39 now (you apparently were born in 1969, and saw it in 1985?). But I don't think that will be the case, because my favorite and least favorite movies are virtually unchanged from what they were since the early 1980s, and I still feel the same way about nearly all now that I did when I first saw them.

It's okay. I own a copy on DVD, more than anything because I liked to collect
older slasher films but I don't watch it very often.

I bought a couple of years ago and I've only watched it about 3 times....

Your mother brought you three DVDs in 1982? Did she happen to tell you where she parked the DeLorean, also, or...?

If you like horror films, particulary slasher films, this is an underrated must see. If you can find it.

It's pretty entertaining with a very effective villainous performance by Ironside.
