Unico and the Island of Magic had a profound effect on me as a child and having watched it and its predecessor (which I just watched for the first time), it still has a deep impact on me even 20-30 years later (wow!) I remember even tearing up towards the end of Island of Magic when my daughter was watching it again just recently. The only other movie from my childhood to have such a major impact on me was probably Transformers the Movie (the original 1986 animated movie, NOT the vastly inferior Bay movies) when they killed off Optimus Prime, as well as a bunch of other main characters from the animated series. The Unico movies were truly very special to my wife and I and I'm grateful that-thanks to Discotek Media- I have FINALLY been able to share it with my daughter and stepdaughters. My only regret is that there were only two full-length Unico movies produced (not counting the TV pilot, which was put on the Island of Magic DVD as a bonus feature) but sometimes things are just more special that way, right?
