I've only seen Fantastic Adventure and the Island of Magic, and in those Unico never gets to stay with his friends. Does it make anyone else here really sad and depressed that he always helps his friends and then always has to leave? Does he get to stay in any of the other movies?
shareYeah it's a little sad that he never gets to stay as for the other two films Black Cloud White Feather and Save our Fragile Earth I can tell you "No" on Black Cloud and I am not sure about the other one as it has never been put on DVD or any such format.
shareYeah, that seems to be Unico's fate/burden in all of the stories, both in the 1979 TV pilot (which would, of course, work well for a regular TV series) and the 1983 Unico in the Island of Magic. It's really sad, of course, but the West Wind is trying to protect him from the gods whom would have Unico exiled to the Hills of Oblivion (which we don't really know anything about but sounds bad) and Unico simply wouldn't be able to stay in one place for any length of time without the gods noticing the result of his actions and taking him away for good. Unico seems like a traveling angel who is destined to touch people's lives in a positive way and when all is well move on. It's sad but beautiful at the same time.
