Did Unico accidentally kill Beezle's father (The Devil of Solitude)

or was that just Beezle talking out of the stone statue? Beezle accuses Unico of destroying his father when the stone statue accidentally got destroyed but I always thought that he was pretending to be the statue- to scare Unico away- sort of like the Wizard of Oz. Does anybody else know for sure?
