i friggen LOVED the felix the cat movie, although i havent seen any felix the cat stuff before or since. He had the magic yellow bag with black x's on it that cud turn into anything. Then he had that buddy poindexter and the hot chick.
Damn its jokes how i also watched unico as a kid, quite a few times actually. I never heard of it since, and it wasnt until now that i actually found this show again (just for the nostalgia factor).

I love this movie!!! I am actually watching it right now. No one I knew watched it either. I want to get them on the original vhs'. I just have the movie recorded on vhs, and the quality is going down, the sound is starting to go.

I'm wondering if I'm crazy...I remember in this movie a really tall woman, like an ice queen. Is she in this movie? I remember that they animated her topless, and I thought that was totally strange. I think it's this movie. Anyone?
Prolly the West Wind. And those "DVDs" you see around right now are _copies of VHSs_!! So watch out! They're a total rip-off, and if you think an old worn-out VHS is bad, imagine copying it to a computer and burning DVDs from THAT. Anyway, the REAL release is coming this year and it has been remastered for the release!
Just make sure you wait and look for the _official Region 1_ release (it should be out this Summer from what I heard). Anything else you see for sale is copied VHS crapola (trust me, I've bought it all). x_x
Don't bother w/ the VHS--the DVDs are coming out this year!!! I feel like an arse cos I paid $60+ for the old VHSs and FHE (does anyone remember that old children's video company "Family Home Entertainment"???) did a terrible job on them. The DVD verions are gonna be remastered.. :D

I'm 28 and I too have been told I was crazy and that I must have dreamt about this movie when I was little. I've been looking for it forever. How weird that in the last few days a bunch of us have found it on imdb and posted how we wish we could buy it. I've been looking online all week trying to find out anything I could about this movie and the sequel, Island of Magic and the most disappointing thing I could come across was on wikipedia- said that the movies would most likely never be released in the US. I'm 26 now and I've never met one person who has even HEARD of this movie before! I also used to watch it all the time when i was 2 or 3 years old. I lived with my grandparents then who are both gone now, so nobody has been able to help me find this movie! I would also LOVE to buy it someday.

Oh man, My dad taped it from tv long long ago, and I watched it nearly everyday. I'm 22 now, btw and I still have that home made vhs. I barely remember this pedo spiking this girl's drink, but the girl was actually a cat and she freaked out over eating a roach or something. My friends also used to claim I must have been on acid when I was a kid.
shareThe DVD release was complicated because the creator Osamu Tezuka died 10 years ago, and Sanrio had helped produce the films (that's why Hello Kitty makes a cameo appearance!!) so it was unclear who had the rights. However, Sanrio returned the rights to Tezuka's studio after his death (aren't Japanese companies great? so honorable!). So the now Unico is being released officially on DVD in the US this year, but not until the summer from what I heard. Just be weary until then because there's a lot of bootleg "DVDs" circulating on the Internet that are _copies_ of the VHS. The official release will be "Region 1" (generally "region 0" and "all region" DVDs are bootlegs in 99% of cases).

I think this is the lost anime movie i've wondered about ever since I was a kid.
Here is my story.
All I remember is watching a VERY crazy anime movie one night in 1988 on the disney channel, remembering that there was some seriously evil, surreal, and frakish backdrops, characters, and just overall unnerving nightmarish elements to this otherwise kiddie movie.
Could this be it? If so, thank god for google, wikipedia, and imdb.
Yeah, I think I saw the Unico movies on the Disney Channel around that time. I only remember pieces, like the little Unico transforming into a full-size badass unicorn in the climax scenes. And some seriously weird plot with a witch that turned people into blocks of stone that she used to make a huge castle. The other one had some evil prince who lived in a giant castle. He may have been a vampire, I don't really remember it too well. I will have to get these movies again. They really impacted my childhood!

shareAs all of you I thought that Unico was a dream. Many people said I was going crazy and dreaming up some weird stuff. But I knew I wasnt, so I searched high and low to find something. But never really found anything until a friend had it and let me copy both movies. Well my copy sucks big toes and I would love to get the dvd if it comes out. But its just funny that 2 cartoons in the 80s have made so many people question thier sanity. Unico must of had a huge impact on all of our lives, only if the creaters new what thier cartoon would do to this world. Hehe, Thats funny. I hope everyone good luck on finding this movie and all the others that made us wonder if we slept during our childhood.
shareI watched this movie when I was very youn, like 4 or 5 years old. i just watche dit again on youtube, and the memories have been flowing. I recommend anyone who likes unico to check out 'Peter No Tail' a very trippy animated movie that I used to have on VHS when i was little also
