More Trivia

Although this is one of his worst movies, and he admits it, there was one good advantage for Chevy Chase just for starring in "Under the Rainbow" - he met his wife Jayni and they have been happily married for almost 30 years and they have three grown daughters. Perhaps without "Under the Rainbow," Chevy would have never hooked up with Jayni. The expression rings true: Every cloud has a silver lining. The cloud is "Under the Rainbow," and the silver lining is Jayni.

Now here I go again. It has been reported that there was a lot of drug use on the set. Yes, Chevy and co-star Carrie Fisher both had drug issues at that time. Chevy rarely talks about "Under the Rainbow" except for his meeting with Jayni. Carrie never has talked about the movie before, but now she's saying that not only did she do drugs with the little people, but she is one of many people who claim that Chevy is difficult to work with. Perhaps when two people were on drugs, it can be quite difficult.

Does Chevy seem to click better with some costars more than others? As I viewed "Under the Rainbow" almost 15 years ago on my VHS, I did notice that Chevy and Carrie had very little chemistry. It seems to me that when Chevy gets along with a costar, whether it be Goldie Hawn or Beverly D'Angelo, everything works well. But when Chevy doesn't along, performances seem forced and strained, as in "Rainbow."
