Very nice film

Very nice period set dressing and cinematography. Good noir film and just the right length, 108 minutes; compact, spare and efficient. Deniro lacked a little energy but Duvall was great as the hard boiled detective. Kenneth McMillan was a perfect addition and steals many of his scenes. It was a hoot to see the Roberts "made old" in the first and last scenes since they are considerably older now than when portrayed as "old".
