Song

What is the song thats played throughout the movie, but esp at the end credits called? I can never be able to get it!

The melody is "Memories of You" by Bennie Goodman. I was astonished Goodman could play such a composition as hauntingly beautiful as this.

Thank you heaps.

Indeed hauntingly beautiful it is! It superbly expresses the entire atmosphere of this movie.

I agree jcjlf "It superbly expresses the entire atmosphere of this movie".
It is gentle and melancholic, and with a dramatic tension and a feel of threat somehow (or is it me): things are never jolly.
It also balances very well with the tempo of the whole film I think.

excellent

The credits say Benny Goodman, but he stole the melody from an Irish song called "Carrickfergus".

"Carrickfergus" is an Irish folk song. It is a typical lament of an Irish expatriate who wishes he was back in his homeland. The origins of the song are unclear, but it has been traced to an Irish language song, "The Sick Young Lover". In modern times, "Carrickfergus" became known after actor Peter O'Toole related it to Dominic Behan, who put it in print and made a recording in the mid-1960s. The middle verse was allegedly written by Behan.
The song has been recorded by many well known performers including Declan Affley, Joan Baez, Dominic Behan, Charlotte Church, De Dannan, Bryan Ferry, Brian Kennedy, Declan Galbraith, Loreena McKennitt, and Van Morrison. It was also included in the second Celtic Woman volume, by Orla Fallon, a compilation of traditional Irish and modern music by a variety of female Irish singers. The song is a popular request at folk festivals and concerts.

I'm not sure why "Memories of You" is credited and not "Carrickfergus." I bought several versions of "Memories of You," and I don't see any similarity at all. But "Carrickfergus" is obviously the melody.
