Thief was based on the book entitled "The Home Invaders: Confessions Of A Cat Burglar" by Frank Hohimer aka John A. Seybold (June 12, 1923 – February 2, 2005) who was an American jewel thief and may have murdered Valerie Percy in the home of her father, Senator Charles Percy. Seybold went all over the country to burglarize the homes of the wealthy. He was placed in an orphanage along with his sister by his mother. The pudgie and cute Detective Urizzi played by convicted jewel thief John Santucci aka John Louis Schiavone owned the magnetic drill used in the movie. I'd buy and read the book, "The Home Invaders: Confessions Of A Cat Burglar", but used copies run around $80.00.
