Locations

Can anyone give some addresses for locations shown in the film? In particular, can anyone pinpoint the townhouse used by Dorothy Stratten? Thanks!

The townhouse in the movie is on the south side of 11th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The stakeout spot is an apartment building directly across the street.

Dolores lived on 12th Street, west of Fifth Avenue, south side of the street, It's easy to recognize the apartment building with the fountain and stairs where Charles hides. When I first came to NY, I worked just a block west and immediately recognized that facade, but was confused because traffic runs in the opposite direction in real life.

The clubs Greene Street (on Greene Street, south of Canal) and City Limits are no more.

The heliport pier is off South Street a block north of Broad Street, but the buildings have been replaced. Odyssey Detective Agency's offices also face South Street, with the FDR Drive running overhead, but I can't pinpoint the block.

Johnny's daughters live in either Peter Cooper Village or Stuyvesant Town apartment complexes, First Avenue in the teens. Their school must be in the East Teens. Johnny's loft is, judging from the angle, probably on Hudson Street in Tribeca. Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll pinpoint a block.

Chez Brigitte, the French luncheonette where Johnny takes Sam, is still there on Greenwich Avenue near 11th Street.

The Plaza Hotel endures, although much of it is residences and luxury retail now. The Rockefeller Center outdoor cafe has a new name, same location. Except in winter, when it's a skating rink.

The FAO Schwartz toy store has moved to larger digs on Fifth Avenue across from the Plaza. Rizzoli bookstore is long gone, but I'm sure the classic facade is unscathed. I'll also revisit the film for a look at the Chinese restaurant and try to pinpoint it,

Oh, and the Music Box theater, where we first see Charles and Arthur trailing Dolores, is on 45th Street between Eighth Avenue and Broadway. She and Barbara Jo leave the theater, cut through Shubert Alley to 44th Street and travel east to the Algonquin Hotel where Arthur meets Sylvia and Dolores meets Jose.

The apartment building with Dolores running up the brownstone stairs is right across from the New School, in NYC. I think the brownstone is also own by the school, which has a large number of students studying acting there.

Does anyone happen to know where the roller skating scene was filmed?

reply

The roller skating rink was called the roxy, it was torn down a couple of years ago

Odyssey Detective Agency's offices is located at 120 Wall Street. Also, same building, around the corner is where Dorothy Stratten took that famous picture of her in a white dress leaning against a window. That is facing s/b FDR Highway right around from the main enterance of 120 Wall Street.
