Hand signals....

I've never been able to figure out what Novak is doing with the two hand signals he gives Ritter - once when they're both behind Stratton (and Ritter shows his heart beating with his hand) and the second time when both he and Gazarra do it to Ritter from across the street - Novak puts his hand in front of his face with his nose between his index and middle fingers - does anyone know what that means?
