The painting of Jane (Bo)

During the painting scene of Jane, or Bo as we like to call her, I often wondered if there was something in the paint that made the tribe the sinister/evil clan that they were. Since the tribe were living next to the mystical elephant graveyard which may have had an influence on the tribe's sinister behaviour. Or maybe the paint contained some supernatural properties that was found or mixed from a substance found at the elephant graveyard? As we see when Bo is being painted, she seems to be losing her own freewill and is starting to accept her fate as she is not struggling as much when she was being scrubbed down earlier. Maybe the paint or the aura of the tribe's village had that effect on her and Bo was being converted to the tribe's mindset.
