A lot of Army brats think they are different than non-military people. If they grew up surround by the pomp and circumstance surrounding the military, they tend to become hardcore themselves. I can see how some teen-agers might get caught up in it the way he did. This is one of the few roles I personally like Tom Cruse in. He played the part of the young punk Army kid who thought hh, and the military lifestyle, are better than the civilian way. He played it brilliantly

shareCome on now. This was awesome casting. They needed someone to play a brainwashable psyco and in walked Tom. This movie helped shoot him to stardom, and he didn't even have to act. Somebody saw something in Tom before he was 20.
