Did anyone thought the Colonel was a real jerk towards Stillman?

I thought he was very impatient while dealing with Stillman and came across as menacing and threatening towards him, the scene where the Colonel threatens Stillman that he'll ship him off to the Arctic Circle made me feel sorry for Stillman.

I think stillman had a history of incompetence.

Was the Colonel trying to find ways to make sure Stillman gets demoted? I feel like the Colonel has it out for Stillman, why didn't he put Hulka in the same assignment?

reply

I don't think he was looking for a way to demote Stillman, if he wanted to demote him he would have just done it. I think it was more along the lines of "this is your last fuck up."

In all honesty I don't think Stillman was needed, I don't think Larroquette is funny and his character doesn't contribute much. Hulka was the perfect foil for Murray and Ramis, we didn't need another.

I'm not the biggest fan of John Larroquette either and he was not really a likable character as Stillman, especially in the second half of the movie, while Hulka can be a hardass he at least was funny and cared about keeping the soldiers in line, with Stillman he didn't seem to like Hulka's men very much and was not very patient towards the soldiers (which is evident in the scene where a soldier wanted to know what cordinate they needed to fire their rifle at which resulted in Hulka getting injured), I also find it strange that Stillman was in a higher position than Hulka yet Hulka seems to be a lot more mature and competent of the two, plus Hulka at least knows how to keep his cool in all situations unlike Hulka.

I wonder what kind of screw ups Stillman has done in the past.
