Where were John, Russell, sgt Hulka, Stella and Louise coming from when they got of the plane because the rest of the unit with john candy was already back and on ground waiting for them and did Ox becomes a sgt overnight. I have always wondered were they returning home from Italy after rescuing the unit or it was a plot hole left out.

The five of them were the heroes of the incident and would have been coming from DC or wherever it was that they were awarded their medals. Ox's rank was PFC just like all the other men in the honor guard. I don't know what happened to the corporal because after the first day in the assembly hall we never saw him again.
