Hero homecoming?
Wouldn't they have just been court martialed and thrown in prison forever?
shareAmerica needed a pick-me-up and the Army invented a cover story.
shareCourt-martialed? For rescuing soldiers behind enemy lines and defeating a numerically superior enemy? Hardly! That's what they give medals for!
On November 6, 2012...God blessed America
But it was the American units who invaded smashing their way through the border gates into their country without any provacation. Of course the so-called enemy are going to react to that, arrest and interrogate them. What self-respecting country wouldn't?
Although Murray etc and co went in and rescued them, it was ultimately his fault in the first place as he did effectively break military rules by stealing the armoured vehicle for his own personal purposes. In reality it would be seen as a major international incident against an East European country, an unprovoked aggressive act of war. Definitely a court martial and longterm prison time rather than military medals of valour and honoured as a national hero. Then there's that Russians are pussy's line at the end of the movie. Man, I can't believe some of the cringeworthy arrogance the USA movie industry got away with back then.
It all made no sense and made the USA look like total pricks.
This was a silly comedy, wasn't it, not a war drama? Or did I watch Platoon by mistake?
Pretty sure that's the answer
Yeah, pretty much, but the whole plot is a farce, so it makes sense that the end would have htem getting a hero's welcome rather than prison.

My bio isn't blank.
Yes of course they should have and it would have been such a nice addition to a COMEDY!!!
