Seriously? only 2 topics? this movie was good

Watched it for the first time last year. thought it was pretty good. kind of reminded me of "Falling Down". another flick I like. I really liked the ending of this film. especially when he kidnaps the clerk at the pharmacy.

"But... I have a hair appointment at 5!!"

So funny. what someone would probably say in that situation.

~I love the rhythm it is my methoood!~

I saw this movie in the local art theater back in 1982 and loved it....

i thought the start was almost Lynchian with that theme song. the setting reminded me of The Cars That Ate Paris

good call about Falling Down.

Why did that group of guys whack Al's bare backside with a belt?

And was Ray the cop having an affair with Al's wife Jacqui or not? At the end of the film Ray tells Al "You've got it all wrong, I never moved in with Jacqui" or something like that.

The cop who was supposed to drive Al home was the same man in the bar who hated Al because he thought Al screwed his wife, according to Ray. The cop arranged to have the guys beat up Al then he was the one who whipped Al. He told Al he can't break the law and get away with it, but he was a crooked cop who did exactly that himself.

I think Ray meant that he didn't move in and live with Jacqui. The affair between him and Jacqui couldn't have been made more obvious than in the scene where Jacqui tries to convince him to stay for a quickie then lifts her dress and takes off her underwear and entices Ray to follow her into her house.

Ray seemed to be implying to Al that he hadn't had an affair with Jacqui at all. No wonder critic Leonard Maltin described the film as "sometimes confusing".

That part was misleading, but sometimes its good to leave the audience a bit confused so they can make up their own minds. I was also confused at the end when Jacqui told Al that if he gave himself up they could get back together, sell the junkyard, and move to Australia. Was she telling the truth or just trying to save his life? People are going to interpret it differently depending on whether or not they want the two to reunite. Since Al didn't kill anybody at the end, maybe he only got a light prison sentence and the two did get back together when he got out. Maybe she divorced him and married Ray. That's up to the viewer to decide.

I'm afraid I found another NZ film, The Navigator, rather confusing too. Me dumb. 😞
