Bert Schnick

Question: Was Bert really blind, or not?

At certain points in the film, it implies (then outright states) that Burt can see (i.e. "Burt can see!", the scen where he's peeping on Janet in the shower).

But that seems to contradict certain things, such as Bert's not knowing what day, night, or morning are (one of my favorite jokes). Or perhaps I'm misinterpreting the joke?

bert being blind was a gimick for the show so maybe the audience would like him more!then they'd be amazed when they say farley cured him!

It wasn't Farley. Cosmo took Bert's cane, zapped him (it was a cattle prod, apparently), and then he cast off his glasses and acted as though he was cured. Then he said that "[Janet] made the blind see, and it was a gift".

Actually,it was Nation who grabbed Bert's glasses off.....and stomped on em.

(freely admitting I put WAY too much thought into this)

...when you live in a TV station, never seeing daylight, night-time, sun, moon, stars, what difference does it make what time it is? what benefit is sight? Especially when, like Bert, you know more about what's going on than those with sight! (I know he could see the whole time, I'm just coming at it from the angle of O'Brien symbolism)

I recall that in an early draft, there was no Bert. It was supposed to be Dr. Scott and it would be revealed that he could walk. So keeping that in mind, I'd say it was a total scam.
