WHY NO SEQUEL?

Anybody ever heard why nobody ever tried to make a sequel to this?
Reynolds' pretty much lived up to his goal of making a "Dirty Harry in Atlanta" & I don't think that anyone would argue that the film was good enough to be the first entry in a franchise. The weird thing is of course that one never came & I'm just curious if anyone knows why. I think that it could have been fantastic.

I just read that they are doing a remake as opposed to a sequel. It is being produced by Mark Wahlberg.

"When in doubt, REMAKE IT!" is the order of the day in Hollywood I guess & with overrated, overused Mark Wahlberg no less!

That would have been pretty cool.
