If I didn't know better, I'd say it was one of the movies spoofed.
All in all, an OK unfunny comedy, kind of like a kiddie version of (the much superior) Beetlejuice.
Evil dead had some showings in 1981, but wasn't fully released until 83

Technically The Evil Dead wad first "released" in 81 in the US.
However, hardly anyone saw it as it was massively overlooked and forgotten about.
Then it had it's UK release...where it kicked up a huge fuss and was one of the film that started the "video nasty" saga.
Then news of this amazing horror film and it's infamy being shown in the UK spread across the pond where the US suddenly wanted to see it.
So it was given another "release" in the US a few years later.
And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.
