Blake quotes poet Millay


In case anyone is interested, Felix Farmer's line "...but all my friends and all my foes it gives a lovely light" comes from Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem, Second Fig; which was publishing in A Few Figs From Thistles (1920). Felix may have misquoted her (putting friends before foes) or maybe it was like that in script (who know and who cares!) I still like his delivery of that line and I like both Figs. (also check out The Ballad of The Harp Weaver)

I burn my candle at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, friends-
It give a lovely light!


There were only two Figs, here is the second one:

Safe upon the solid rock the ugly houses stand:
Come and see my shining palace bulit upon the sand!
