Why?!?

There were so many uses of the word "whilst" in the trivia section I feel the need to comment. For the longest time I thought that I was the only one who is HIGHLY annoyed by the use of this word but after doing some research, I find that there are a great deal of people who feel as I do. If you are one of these annoying little people who think that the use of this obsolete word makes you sound worldly, educated, intelligent, or interesting, let me assure you that it does not. It makes you sound like a pretentious douchebag who is desperate to sound like something you are not! ... Please forgive my venting, I just HAD to let that out! Anybody with me here??

No

Don't be too quick to judge. Some people are pretentious; others are just literate. I sometimes can't tell the difference until I meet them in person. In the meantime, I prefer to assume they are simply using a perfectly good (if not commonly used) word.

Or perhaps (I could have said, 'mayhaps;) aren't from the US where we butcher the language.

I think I agree with you that the word is archaic and perhaps obsolete, whilst I also find it useful at times. Some times it is a good way to connect two ideas whilst also not losing any momentum.

(Edit: Btw i never use 'whilst' i was just making fun, I agree, its a weird antiquated word)
