what happened at the gas station? (why was he holding the people back?)

maybe i looked away a second, why the heck was he brawling around and holding people back (waving some kind of metal piece or something) at the gas station? thanks.

conspiracy,
people all around,
up to things we had no idea about,
with secrets,
but now we can see it,
all around,
they got information about you now,
making plans we weren't supose to know about,
just waiting to make their move on you any time now,
we figured it out,
a conspiracy going about.

It's been years since I saw this movie, but as far as I can remember, this happened:

he stopped at the gas station because the woman had to go to the bathroom. There, he recognised the vehicle that was -according to him- owned by the bad guy. He deduced that the man in the men's room was the creep and urged him to come out, eager to apprehend him... but it turned out to be a harmless and shocked fellow (who would appear later in the film as well).
If I remember correctly, this is where an important twist happens: the woman disappears at the gas station, most likely because she was taken by the bad guy. Now the "hero"'s problem has become a lot bigger: he can still forget all about it, making himself believe that it's all in his imagination, but then he might actually risk a person's life...

he tries to steal the guys bike to give chase....stacks it into some tires and then goes back to the truck. he has to hold people back because the cab is not set properly because he was working on it

The biker and gas station owner et al are mad at him because he's already threatened the biker and then stolen his bike and crashed it into the tyres. This makes everyone pissed at him. He is trying to set the cab back down quickly to catch up with the killer and rescue Hitch. That is why he's holding everyone back with the help of Boswell and the metal pole. If they had have apprehended him, Hitch would have been a goner.
