if i'm not mistaken, the safeway logo appears on a cabinet or toolbox in the last shot of the movie as the camera is tracking through the grocery store. i was pretty shocked by this, considering the implication that the grocery store is unwittingly serving hitchhiker meat....do they even have safeway in australia?

I honestly didn't know Safeway was international. They're all over where I grew up in Oregon and Washington, and my brother lived in Alaska for awhile so I know they have them there. I have family in Los Angeles, and there they're called Vons. I live in NYC now, and we don't have them here (though they do have stores on the east coast, just not in NY state).
I was surprised to see the Safeway in this movie as well! I've always loved Safeway.
We used to SAFEWAY outlets everywhere...i think BI-LO took over.
